Responsibilities
- In conjunction with MP/IC Teams oversee the systems for scheduling the receipt of inventory from vendors at logistics facilities and stores. Ensure that inventory availability targets are met whilst optimizing the utilization of goods-receiving capacity.
- Control inbound import shipments from origin including arrangements for vessel off-loading, brokerage (including customs clearance) and onward delivery (drayage) to logistics facilities.
- Ensure the timely availability of appropriate transport at logistics facilities for collection of outbound goods. Continuously monitor vendor performance against KPI’s.
- Oversee transportation delivery performance to stores including costs, timeliness and service levels
- Manage the process for delivery of EComm sales to customers. Evaluate providers, negotiate contracts and monitor performance to optimize service and minimize costs.
- Actively seek opportunities for cost-reduction / service improvement by working in conjunction with transportation vendors on areas including routing & scheduling, load consolidation, back-haul, vehicle selection & availability, driver performance etc.
- Oversee transportation operations and provide routine reports of operating costs and service levels.
- Review all transportation contracts and report on vendor performance against contractual obligations.
- Control the process for routine transportation vendor review and contract renewal including RFP process, vendor consolidation and the development of a standard operating contract
- Assume responsibility for all Health, Safety & Environmental issues relating to transportation operations. Actively seek opportunities to reduce the environmental footprint of transport operations

Qualifications
- Graduate. Ideally in transport, logistics, supply chain or a related discipline
- At least 10 years’ experience in a senior transportation role with full cost centre responsibility
- Extensive current knowledge of the transport industry in Japan
- Previous experience controlling 3rd Party transport contracts with multiple providers including contract negotiations
- Collaborative style with well-developed senior management expertise. Confident in leading teams to deliver results
- Advanced analytical skills and good commercial awareness
- Practiced communicator with good spoken / written English language skills
- Previous experience in retail FMCG distribution services in Japan preferred
- Experience of working for a transport company would be an advantage
- Exposure to working with a multi-national company would be an advantage
