Responsibilities
-Procure small to medium-scale, complex goods and services across multiple sites, while managing related contracts
-Purchase centrally procured items through existing agreements; plan and manage bidding processes for independently procured items
-Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand needs and translate them into purchasing requirements
-Perform procurement operations—such as issuing and approving purchase orders—within defined authority limits
-Efficiently and cost-effectively procure locally required goods and services
-Utilize tools such as purchasing cards and blanket orders to reduce costs and administrative workload
-Promote the adoption and effective use of various procurement tools
-Research and identify new, cost-efficient suppliers
-Explore consolidation of small purchases to achieve better purchasing conditions
-Establish and maintain a stable supply base for goods and services
-Analyze regional spend data to optimize sourcing strategies, prioritizing regional or local contracts where appropriate
-Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal departments
-Ensure timely delivery of goods and services that meet quality, cost, and schedule requirements
-Resolve issues with central suppliers via the purchasing manager; handle local supplier issues directly
-Coordinate closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders for smooth procurement processes
-Participate in supplier evaluations for regional and global suppliers
-Train junior staff in the use of procurement tools such as Ariba and Excel
Qualifications
-Experience in procurement of equipment and related services within a manufacturing environment
-Familiarity with procurement systems and processes
-Knowledge of the chemical industry is a plus
-Hands-on experience handling contracts, with a strong understanding of contractual terms, conditions, and contract design
-Understanding of market trends related to procured goods and services
-Basic knowledge of business challenges and financial principles
-Ability to actively acquire and apply specialized knowledge and skills to make sound decisions and deliver results
-Strong team player who respects others’ contributions and actively participates in consensus building
-Customer-oriented mindset with a commitment to providing timely, courteous, and high-quality service
-Proficient in clear, concise, and effective communication in Japanese, using appropriate formats and channels
-Capable of planning, organizing, prioritizing, and managing tasks to deliver required outputs and information on time
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and procurement-related applications
-Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and apply knowledge and experience to derive solutions
-Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
-4–6 years of hands-on experience in procurement roles within relevant industries
